For some people the major selling point of the HTC EVO 4G mega phone is the fact that it is good to look at. Now you might turn around and say that this is superficial nonsense but the reality is that many people make their purchase decisions on the basis of whether something looks good or not.

The younger generation is particularly concerned if the piece of equipment that they are buying looks out of place with the rest of the community within which they live. If I was a manufacturer I would be concentrating on the extent to which the looks of the HTC EVO 4G mega phone reflect its technical abilities. This is no mean feat and it requires an understanding of how consumers link the appearance of a piece of technology to its functionality. The LCD screen for example might suggest that the equipment is sleek and modern while the appearance of many cables would indicate a certain level of wastage and encumbrance.

1. I think that the issue of size will have to be developed further. If we are expecting the HTC EVO 4G mega phone to perform as well as the personal computer we will have to make some compromises on the size. I know that these days everyone is looking for the slimmest mobile phone and the one that weighs the least.
However this has to be reconciled with the fact that the same people will be expecting exceptional performance from their HTC EVO 4G mega phone. The challenge for the designers is to link these two objectives and come up with a piece of equipment that does not disappoint both objectives.
2. As to the color, Grey and black seem to be the obvious choices although it must be said that the pink phone has created quite a following despite its problems with the stereotypes. That is perhaps one of the things that the HTC EVO 4G mega phone marketers might be looking to do in order to increase their market base to this niche. I never imagined the day when the pink mobile phone would become a luxury item but it did become prestigious at some point. In fact the famous Selfridges have a line that is devoted to lovers of the pink mobile phone.
All in all, although we believe that the looks of the HTC EVO 4G mega phone do not necessarily affect its technical performance, we also accept that the market does take these things into consideration. Therefore the design of the technology has to account for this fact and ensure that the HTC EVO 4G mega phone is both attractive to use and attractive to look at. If they fail to do this then some other manufacturer might turn it into a competitive disadvantage.
